Severe Weather
Severe Weather Procedures
For Arrivals and Dismissals
When lightning is in the area, campus administration will monitor lightning strikes using the Pocket Perry app. When lightning is within 10 miles of Eagle Ridge Elementary, we will use our district texting app to let parents know bad weather arrival and dismissal procedures are activated.
These procedures are put in place to keep students and adults safe. Per KISD safety procedures, during severe weather conditions such as lightning, thunderstorms, or tornado warnings, students are brought into the building from outside activities and held inside until conditions are safe. KISD regulations do not allow us to dismiss students to buses or to walk out of the building while severe weather is in the area unless there is a waiver on file.
During this time, KISD employees are not allowed outside to help with arrival in the morning or to dismiss students in the afternoon. In the morning, during arrival, that means we will have no campus staff outside to help. It is recommended that parents only drop off closest to the building since no one will be outside to help with the crosswalk. We try to open hallway doors to help with traffic.
For Students that have a Severe Weather Release Waiver on file.
- Students will go to normal dismissal location.
- Students will be released to walk or get into their parent’s car.
- Staff will NOT be walking students out of the building or putting them into cars.
For Students who do NOT have a Severe Weather Release Waiver on file.
- Siblings will go to the youngest sibling’s classroom.
- Daycare, Clayton, and Bus Riders will go to their dismissal locations. (Daycares/Buses do not dismiss outside until KISD confirms weather has passed)
- All students will stay in their hallways (except siblings, daycare and Clayton see above).
- Parents may come in and get their student from the hallway door with their pick-up sign. All doors will be open and monitored by a staff member.
After severe weather has cleared, all students (including daycare) will be released to their normal dismissal locations and released.
WEATHER LOCKDOWN
- All students and staff will go to duck and cover locations.
- Parents are allowed to come into the building and take cover in an interior location and are strongly encouraged not to leave with their student(s) until the weather threat has passed.
